#51 Infernal, "I Won't Be Crying"

I won't be crying when I'm lonely
'Cause I'll be making sure I'll have a good time
Ain't nothing wrong when I'm alone now
'Cause I'm alone and I'm proud

I've never truly become a complete fan of Danish group Infernal. I'm glad they're out there and can't wait to hear the new material they've said they're working on, but I really only have a strong fondness for a couple of their songs. Luckily, when they're "on," they're really on, and "I Won't Be Crying" is one of those cases. It's a hard-hitting dance-pop song (there seems to be a lot of those around this section of the chart, doesn't there?), though this time sampling Depeche Mode so as to create a song designed for miming and gesturing (with lots of big hand gestures--the video's really missing out by not including more of those, though luckily they begin to pick up once we reach the midway point) along to in perfect make believe music video-style fashion. Irresistibly catchy and punchy, it's also got some great attitude going on--an empowerment anthem for the wronged partner in a breakup.

I won't attempt to comment on every track in the countdown, just one every 5 tracks or so with an overview. First of all, I really really need to investigate Da Buzz. It's rather amazing that I have only caught one or two of their songs so far. I really believe i would find them amazing. Same with Akcent. I really want to like them. And Infernal! They are still mining that album? Who cares when the songs are as good as this ~ and what a brilliant single cover. Really fits the mood of the song. I like it as much as i like the song. Can't wait to see more....

Da Buzz are pretty great--but because they're so consistent, that makes them easy to overlook, just because they're "always there," you know? And they do get accused of never evolving a lot, but that doesn't bother me. Akcent, on the other hand, are INCREDIBLY patchy in my opinion--they've had a few FANTASTIC songs ("Kylie," "King Of Disco," and "Jokero" come to mind), but their albums can easily be ignored in general. I hadn't seen the cover for that Infernal single before, but I love it! Totally fits the song.

PPG, I like this Infernal track, but my fave is "I Took A Ride (Fairytale)". Glad to see the Danes made your list. Oh yeah, just remembered "Self Control"'s inky black oil-ish (x-files ref) was pretty cool too!

I really need to go back and listen to that album again--that's where I'll start, then!

I actually think that Infernal are a great group but sadly they'll probably be remembered as just a one hit wonder in the UK. I adore Lina's growled vocals and the less said about how delicious Paw is the better!
