Everything is fine when you're losing your mind

I'm temporarily interrupting the Selma feature because I'm a bit pressed for time and I want to make sure I do the final part justice. It'll definitely be resumed tomorrow, though!

I'm not even going to pretend I know much about k-os; I do know he's from Canada and I guess most people would probably say he does hip-hop music. His latest album, Atlantis: Hymns For Disco, was released in 2006 in Canada, but didn't reach the U.S. until 2007. I still haven't listened to the whole thing--I'd be surprised if I ever do--but the following song caught my attention.

Valhalla--there's probably some very deep and meaningful lyrics here, and I imagine the whole thing is supposed to provide a lot of commentary on something. However, I haven't even really listened to them, to be honest--the real reason I'm drawn to this track is the music under the words (though I like the feel of the words, too)--the guitarist and the percussionist better have been paid well, because it's the beat of the drums and that guitar riff, along with the occasional set of handclaps, that drives this song. I'm sure I'm missing the point of the song by focusing on that, but if he wanted me to be paying attention to the words, he really shouldn't have made that backing so darn catchy, should he?

To buy k-os's third album, Atlantis: Hymns For Disco, go here (physical) or here (digital).

Next up: Selma's final album.

this seems so different for you (yet it may well not be) and I am loving it. such amazing lyrics and innovative style of presenting the tune :)

It's such a pop song disguised as being hip-hop...or really, maybe it would be better to say it doesn't fit into one genre easily. Still, I love it :)

If the backing track is the catchiest bit of the song for you, you should definitely check out Sam Roberts' music. He guests on the track and I'm pretty sure that the guitar riff is part of his contribution. :)

The copy of the song I have is labeled as featuring him, but I had no idea who he was! I'll definitely go check him out--thanks :)
