The legends have to survive

Continuing the "favorites" post, I've found my favorite news story for today.

As ESC Today is reporting, a Christian political party is petitioning the Swiss parliament to force DJ Bobo to rewrite his song for this year's Eurovision, "Vampires Are Alive."

My favorite part of the story is this:

"As esctoday.com reported on Wednesday, some Christians in Switzerland are concerned that the lyrics which include references to Hell and selling your soul represent Switzerland poorly. "When a song deals with satanism and the occult it ceases to be a laughing matter," according to the EDU. Earlier this week the Swiss Evangelical Alliance (SEA) complained to Swiss Television that the lyric "you're here to surrender with your life" could encourage unstable people to consider suicide."

This is the song in question:

There are so many tasteless jokes I could make right now.

I also rather like the fact that DJ Bobo is unable to respond to the complaints about corrupting people and promoting death because he's off in Ethiopia doing work for the United Nations' World Food Programme.

Ooh, like that song. The video's got a dash of "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" going on.

Meanwhile, here's some old school DJ Bobo that I posted on Valentine's Day.

I remember seeing that on Valentine's Day--I thought of his entry at the time. And I hadn't thought of BSB, but it does, a bit. I wonder how they're going to stage it for ESC, though--you can only have 6 people on stage.
