'Cause you are the best thing ever

(Note: I originally had a completely different post on this subject and then decided to toss it out the window.)

The greatest hits (technically, "singles collection") of one of the best Swedish pop groups out there comes out this Wednesday. In addition to containing their brilliant 2008 Melodifestival entry "Lay Your Love On Me," it's got two new songs: "Barcelona," the next single, and "The Bells Of Freedom," which will come out as a single this summer. Neither is really in the vein of "Lay Your Love On Me" or even really Prototype in my opinion; "The Bells Of Freedom" is kind of like a mix of "Give Me The Night" and "Chariots Of Fire" (but not nearly as amazing as the combined amazingness of those songs might imply; though I love "Give Me The Night," I'm not sure I like that sort of fuzzy electro mid-tempo backing enough to want to see its continued use instead of, say, the slick electro-pop-disco kind of style of "Lay Your Love On Me") and "Barcelona" is more...well, the ending section (my favorite part of the song) reminds me of the ending of "Gomenasai" or maybe "We Should Be Dancing," but if you take the song as a whole, it's not as much of a stormer as either of those songs (probably because of the structure of the chorus, which is based mainly on the repetition of "Barcelona" with this kind of odd tone to it). Speaking of "Gomenasai" (which is brilliant, by the way), I know this is going to sound crazy, but is there any chance they entered a song for Melodifestival 2007?

I do hope we'll see more songs in the "Lay Your Love On Me" style from the group, but until then, these two new songs will help us pass the time. Neither of them would be near the top of the list of the songs I'd use to introduce someone to this group, but they're still enjoyable, with "Barcelona" being my favorite of the two at the moment (especially for that aforementioned ending section.)

Barcelona

To buy Pandemonium - The Singles Collection, go here (physical; preorder for now) or here (digital). Today's song will only be posted for a very short time since it's going to be a new single.

Next up: maybe that Belgian singer or one of two American singers if I don't end up writing about both of them in a non-song post.

Paul, when I saw your Mariah review, I thought something similar (well, not that our thoughts on the album itself necessarily lined up)! They are an act with more than enough great songs to fill up a greatest hits!

So is Bells of Freedom going to be the official Europride Song? A summer release of a very Pride sounding title sounds like this could be the one?

Their official site (well, the closest they've got to one) says "The Bells Of Freedom" is going to be the Europride song, with "Barcelona" being the single after "Lay Your Love On Me," "The Bells Of Freedom" being a single in August, and "Gomenasai" planned for eventual release it late summer/fall.

SPEAKING OF BWO, I received a text message this week asking if I had heard if there was any truth to the rumour that BWO were coming to Australia for a tour. Are you aware of any of this?

The lazy bitch at EMI still hasn't replied to my email about it, and I'm itching to find out...

OMG! I would cream myself if BWO came to Australia! Please be true :)

Adem, I've heard nothing about that, but I'm not usually very up on breaking BWO news! That would be great for their Australian fans, though--if you find out, let me know, please! If I happen to hear anything, I'll definitely e-mail you or leave a comment.

I'll hope it's true, for your sake :D
