No tenemos nada que perder

Attack of the weird coincidences--I know I said yesterday that today would probably be a song from Mexico, but by last night I'd changed my mind and planned on posting a remix of an Enrique Iglesias song...I even had the whole beginning of the post written out, and I may end up using at some point in the future. However, when I heard his new song today, I had to post that instead. Look, I'm sorry, I know it's not cool at all, and I'm not familiar enough with his work to judge him as an artist, but he has had at least two great singles in the past ("Escape" and "Don't Turn Off The Lights"), and I like this new song. Possibly it's a phase, but just as possibly it's not.

Dímelo--the Spanish version (I don't have the English version yet, sorry, but it's called "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)"--yes, the ping pong song. Even in the Spanish version, it's obvious why, as part of the beat comes from what sounds like a ping pong ball bouncing around. Also on the weird coincidences front, there can't really be that many songs with "ping pong" in the title, but #1 Hits From Another Planet posted one just a few days ago) of his lead single for his new album, Insomniac. It's a mid-tempo (the first thirteen seconds aren't representative of the song as a whole), very poppy, sort of cute song with a beat I like and...well, really, it's just pleasant to listen to. No, that makes it sound dull--it's a good song, really! Very good! I like the little sound effects in the background; I'm horrible with instrumentation--are those synths? It's just cute, catchy, nothing pretentious, quite possibly the sort of song that's not what you'd expect out of a comeback single, but a song you can enjoy on your own nevertheless.

Credit and thanks for the song goes to Remiem of Publispain.

Edit: googling reveals that, if you want to listen to a clip of the English version of the song, you can do so here; I can't wait to hear the full thing.

Enrique Iglesias's single "Dimelo" isn't out yet, but to support the artist, you could buy one of his previous albums; Escape, for example, which has "Don't Turn Off The Lights," "Escape," and "Hero," can be purchased here (physical) or here (digital).

Next up: maybe that song from Mexico.

his last album was such a waste - he had that single with Kelis (i think) that did really well and then nothing. I never understand why record companies do that. It's like Shakira waited way too long to follow up Hips Don't Lie. Whats the delay!! Grrr. Which is slightly off topic but seeing Enrique (who i do quite like) reminded me. His Escape album was great - i really liked the songs you mentioned, Could I Have This Kiss and I Will Survive...

Was his last album a waste because it was mishandled or because it wasn't very good? I've never gotten around to listening to it. The delay on Shakira baffled me, too; though I wasn't invested in it, it seemed like a strange decision.

I love "Dimelo", it's one of the best things I've heard all year! I really enjoy Enrique's Spanish material but his English stuff is too MOR for my liking.

I've got to look into his Spanish stuff, then--I don't have any more than the couple of Spanish-language versions of his hits that he tacks on to the end of albums, and if the Spanish stuff is less MOR, that'd be great. I'm thrilled you like the song!
