Mon coeur est tout à moi, mon corps n'est pas soumis

"Femme d'ajourdi'hui," the new single from French singer Sofia Essaïdi (who I first read about on Poplicious), apparently a tie-in with her appearance in the title role of the musical Cléopâtre, is more than a little similar to "Umbrella" (as in, if I were songwriters Lionel Florence and Patrice Guirao, I'd be hoping The-Dream and Tricky Stewart don't listen to French radio)...

...but I still really like it. It did take hearing it about three times before it really clicked, but I've had the video on near constant repeat since it did--so I can listen to the song, though the video is really well-done too, with some great "popstar" moments.

TUNE, I already watched the video 6 times! Its a song of the week for me, thats for sure, as for Umbrella similarity..well, maybe chorus, not THAT much !!
and the way she walks at the very end of the video - WHOAAA! pure sex!

I can't wait to hear this (I'm at work just now so can't watch the video). Sofia is a great singer and I'm sure she will be brilliant in the leading role in Kamel Ouali's new musical, which I remember writing about on my blog last year. Did you ever hear any songs from her debut album "Mon Cabaret" from 2005? This is a great CD and I still play it a lot. :-)

I'm so glad someone else found it as addictive as I did :D She looks fantastic in the video, too! And actually, yeah, I do agree with you about "Umbrella" at heart--you could say inspired by it in the same way that, say, Monrose's "Hot Summer" was inspired by Timbaland and I think a lot of people will hear a similarity, but there are some real differences.

I hope you end up liking it! I think the only song I know from her debut is the title track--it's a great album, though? I do love that song! I may have to get the album!

This is great - thanks for the tip!

Kamel Ouali is a genius. I loved Le Roi Soleil, particularly the song Ca Marche.

OK now I've heard it and I think I may just get addicted to this one. Yes there are similarities to the overplayed (and dare I say overrated?) "Umbrella" but like you say, it's got its own real differences too.

Can't wait to hear the soundtrack album to this one. "Le Roi Soleil" is a hard act to follow, but I'm sure it will be a goodie :)

I'm glad you like it! I'm admittedly pretty much un-knowledgeable (yes, I could say ignorant, but that just sounded too negative ;) ) about so much of French culture...actually, you know, knowing French would probably help.

Yay! :D I'm so glad you like it that much! I'll be very interested to hear it as well.

P.S. Europe Crazy, I forgot to say, I think I'm going to be addicted to (well, that implies that I'm not already ;) ), so at least we can be addicted together!
