Second chances

Though it's not official yet, the usually reliable Team Plaid is reporting that Blake Lewis will be getting a second single (yay!), that it will probably be "How Many Words" (double yay!), and that he'll appear on Idol this year. Again, as I said, none of this is official, but it does make me very hopeful. They say the single may be shipped to radios in early March. He's also said in another fairly recent interview (or at least one that was debuted fairly recently) that "How Many Words" is the song he really wants to be a single, too (the interview also discusses Blake and Ryan Tedder, too, and that Blake is friends with Maroon 5; he also restates the whole backstory about "Break Anotha"--it was "the one song Clive Davis executive produced" and really wanted to be on the CD, and the demo had a girl singing on it...Blake didn't think much of it until he reworked it; also, Ryan Tedder offered Blake a song with a Timbaland beat and melody from Ryan and Blake "wasn't feeling it," so didn't use it). Please, world, can all this be true and can is please be a hit?

Also, in other news, he looked very very presentable during his interview on The View a few weeks ago. I still can't stand how "Break Anotha" comes across live at all, though.

The, uh, "climbed to the top of the charts" line about "Break Anotha" is a little bit of a stretch, to say the least.

It doesnt work when performed! For some reason...but you know...it could be the youtube effect.

Regarding No Angels: Disappear is a brilliant song. But a little feeling inside of me tells me the girls (and their team) have no real intention to go ESC. They just wanna relaunch the album Destiny with the biggest ommph possible. There are no Popstars/Pop Idols/X Factors final shows going on at the moment (those with major ratings) so they've submitted the song (which is a VERY strong girl group single) to the nearest competition to ensure the song gets out to the highest possible audience.

In many ways its a win-win for No Angels. Disappear is a strong song. It should do well. If it doesnt (at Grand Prix), the song will have been heard by millions. Thats the problem with a product created in the storm of reality TV-it needs the same tricks/ratings/attention to stay alive.....especially when the sales start to dip (like they have with recent No Angels singles).

It doesnt take away the fact that Disappear is a brilliant song. Not for ESC...but to me its stinks of a song that really wasnt made for such auspices. Its a "re-launch" single, not a Eurovision song.

I think the Eurovision selection in Germany gets very little attention and viewers though... and there's a real danger that they're going to end up 4th or 5th if you ask me, which could potentially be disastrous to their credibility.

I think Blake has chosen the wrong single. Without You is much stronger IMO.

It's just all...what did I read someone say? Paraphrasing them, it's all very "Red Hot Chili Peppers." Which I realize is a generalization, blah blah blah, but it kind of gets across how the feel of the song changes live.

I have no idea about Germany's preselection--this'll be my first time paying proper attention to it, assuming I do...I do wonder, though--well, I haven't paid that much attention to the No Angels comeback, but I thought I got the impression it hadn't gone all that well? Do they have much credibility, for this reformed era? I mean, would it be different if this was back during their peak?

I ADORE the last third or so of "Without You"--it just gets so BIG there--but I really have no clue what has a chance of doing well on radio from his album. Part of me thinks it would be "End Of The World." Still, the very positive opinions from most corners on "How Many Words" (I like it more than "Without You") and the fact that it pretty quickly began outperforming "Break Anotha" on iTunes when the album was released do make me feel like, if anything is a good single choice, it is. I'm really genuinely worried about it. As commercial as the album is, will anything on it take off at radio? I'm pleased with the choice, though, and definitely pleased he's getting a second single. Assuming the whole thing isn't backed half-heartedly by the label, that is.

I need to be related to a billionaire or something, so I know if any of my favorite popstars get dropped I can just sign them on my own.

Wouldn't I love "Without You" as a "She Will Be Loved"-sized hit...oh, that would be fantastic...

1) The picture you've posted of Blake is exceptional.

2) I'm very pleased to hear we're getting a second single, and am unsure of whether I'd go with "How Many Words" or "End Of The World," but I think you're right PG about the latter being the one which would probably sit better with American radio formats.

3) BSB's "Poster Girl" came on random today on the old iTunes and I had a little boogie in your honour.

I'm so glad someone else appreciates that picture ;) "End Of The World" just seems...safer, for American radio. And ha ha, yay! I wish they'd give us something like that again...

I'm a little late to the party..! I had not heard this news, but I am so glad Blake'll get anotha (d'oh) single! Yeah, and I wonder which chart he was referring to? It didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and that's the one that counts. :( Hopefully, single #2 will do it for him. :)
