Do you ever wonder why this music gets you high?

Apparently the theme for tomorrow's American Idol episode is pop music, with Gwen Stefani filling in the advisor role (I don't think I've written anything about AI here yet, but I've been watching it faithfully [except for last week, when I forgot]; my favorites so far are Melinda and Blake). Now, this probably won't end up being used very well by the contestants at all, but the range of possibility here is still causing me to get somewhat excited. Well, really, what I'm excited by mainly is by the suggestion of one commenter at Popwatch. This particular commenter, Tim, suggested songs by Heart, Go West, Wham!, Daniel Bedingfield, and Marc Cohn for some contestants, which already had me inclined to like him, but this suggestion just about caused me to flip out:

"Blake - Dirty POP (N*SYNC)" [sic]

How amazingly brilliant would that be?! I hereby demand that Blake sing "Pop" tomorrow. He might not be able to pull it off, but it could fit him very well, and if he did it right...

Poster Starlet, you did indeed write about AI on the You Call That A Life blog....about a month ago. I remember commenting, and I think we were agreeing at how boring the contestants all were.

I'd bone Blake once or twice then lose his number... he seems tacky (as opposed to myself and this sentence).

I'm hoping Sanjaya does "Hollaback Girl"....

Oh no...Chris R.? Eep...well, I'm glad someone likes him! He's not really my taste.

I worry about my memory sometimes, I really do. I was intrigued by his first couple of performances, but (if I'm remembering correctly), for me he's sailing more on potential than knock-out performance yet. I'm not going to argue with "tacky" at all though--that whole "other identity"/acting or whatever it was he did with the fake teeth and hat or hair or whatever it was....what was that? Sanjaya might as well just do that--I mean, I don't think his staying in the competition is in any way contingent on what or how he's actually singing--at least we'd be entertained.

Chris may be a brief lust thing - plus he did a Jason Mraz song so i was slightly bewitched ;)

Ahh, the power of Mraz :) Liking whoever is good--really, it's hard to find too many standouts this year, so it's pretty easy for different people to like different singers.

I can't stand that Justina wannabe, he can't sing and he ain't that hot. Someone please give him a bottle of Proactiv... STAT!

OMG! I KNEW SANJAYA WOULD DO A GWEN SONG!!

Ha! Robbie is a Fanjaya! I knew it!

Who cares what she is singing? Let's discuss the most important thing! Two Donna Summer songs! RAR! Screw that No-Talent broad of Gwen. Donna rocks! :)

Oh my. Sanjaya's hair.

Different opinions are welcome :) On anything, really. I'm not sure if you're referring to Chris or Blake, though? I know everyone keeps comparing Chris to Justin, but I just don't see it at all.

J'ason, that's scary! Really.

Ha ha, Veronica... Chris Richardson, of course! You really don't see it?

Look wise, they have the same crew-crew-cut, their hair turns into sideburns, which turn into the mustache and beard... all are the same length. Vocals-wise, they both have that same unbearable (to my ears anyway) voice, completely whiny and nasal.

I have to say, I don't like ANY of this year's contestants... How come we never ever get a guy like Darius, Shayne, Måns, Alexander, or Erik? All we get are Sideshow Bobs, Queens, and Jack Osbournes! :(

(IMHO)

And this is dedicated to Robbie, the biggest Fanjaya out there.  Click here to see Sanjaya's fauxhawk.

And it's got 7 ponytails! For good luck, of course. Oh goodness...

Hmmm...well, I don't like either of them that much, so I guess in that way at least they're similar! And the do have the same hairstyle, I guess, but maybe I just don't see it in the face.

I totally agree about bemoaning our Idol contestants compared to other countries', though! (Just to check--Alexander as in from Germany, I'm guessing?). Sometimes there are moments of greatness ("8th World Wonder" was a good little pop song), but have we ever had a guy off of American Idol release a truly good album?
